Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Divorce: Everything You Need to Know

October 28, 2016 | Celebrity, Firm News

Sept. 19 – Jolie Files for Divorce: The 41-year-old actress filed for divorce from Pitt on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple separated on sep. 15, according to the divorce papers. Jolie asked for physical custody of the couple’s shared six children -Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox. She requested that Pitt, 52, be granted visitation. The actress did not ask for child or spousal support.

Sept. 20 – Pitt Speaks Out on Split: Pitt acknowledged the divorce once news of the breakup started circulating on Tuesday. In a statement, Pitt said his focus is on their six children: “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,” he said in the statement. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.” Jolie also released a statement addressing the divorce through her attorney: “This decision was made for the health of the family,” the statement read. “She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time.”

Rumors Circulate That Pitt Cheated on Jolie with Marion Cotillard: Shortly after news of the divorce broke, the New York Post reported Jolie left her husband after suspecting he had been unfaithful with Cotillard, his costar in the upcoming World War II drama Allied.

Sept. 21 – Source Says Pitt Will Fight for Custody of Children: Despite Jolie filing for sole physical custody, a source states that Pitt wants to be present in his six kids’ lives.

Sept. 22 – Pitt Is Under Investigation for Child Abuse: The L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services is investigating child abuse claims against Pitt after someone anonymously reported an incident that allegedly occurred last Wednesday on the couple’s private plane. Pitt is accused of getting verbally abusive with one of the couple’s kids, as well as getting “physical,” a source says. He was also said to be drinking at the time of the incident. Jolie was present at the time, along with at least some of their other children. The actress listed the date of separation as Sept. 15 in the divorce filings, a day after Pitt’s alleged blowup. The case has also been referred to the FBI since it allegedly happened while the family was in the air.
