What is ghosting a case or limited scope representation?

On Behalf of | Jan 26, 2018 | Legal Services

Today we’d like to share with you some alternatives to full legal representation of a case that we can offer to our clients depending on their case needs.

The reasons to look for alternatives to full representation may be financial or for personal reasons, nevertheless we recommend you consult with an experienced firm about these alternatives and ask if they’ve handled cases like yours in any of these fashions. It’s important that you fully understand the role your attorney will have on your case, so you can make the decision that best fits your needs.

One alternative is called ghosting a case, what this means basically is that there is an attorney behind the scenes for you, they’re going to assist you with preparing documents and strategy, however only your name is going to appear in the documentation and they’re not going to appear in court for you. A benefit of this option is for example, clients that are going through a divorce case, sometimes don’t want their spouse to know that they’re getting assistance on the case. We offer to ghost their case, so they don’t feel as if they were going through the process alone.

Another option we recommend is limited scope, this is a hybrid between ghosting a case and full representation. How it works is that we represent you as your attorney, we go to court and prepare documents for you, but only for a small portion of your case. Depending on your case, you can decide with the firm how big or small representation you want for your case.

If you’d like to discuss more about your case and think ghosting or limited scope representation may be right for you, we’d be happy to assist you. Please contact us for a free consultation, click here to schedule or send a SMS to 619-648-9652.
