The world of Hollywood is always full of drama and spectacle, but sometimes those A-list divorces go from bad to worse when the kiddies get thrown into the mix. This list looks at the top 5 famous mothers who lost their babies to the exes.
Britney Spears
Britney famously lost custody of her children with Kevin Federline, who was granted sole custody during Brit’s legendary 2008-09 meltdown. Happily, Britney has now recovered and they couple shares custody of the two boys.
Katherine Jackson
Michael Jackson’s mom temporarily lost custody of the late singer’s three children, Paris, Prince Michael and Blanket. She was made permanent guardian of the kids after Michael’s death, but briefly lost custody after allegations that other family members had kidnapped her in a dispute over money.
Courtney Love
Courtney Love raised daughter, Frances Bean on her own after the death of Kurt Cobain, until 2009. Bean had made some inflammatory comments against her mother, including blaming her for the death of several pets, and was subsequently placed under temporary guardianship of Cobain’s mother and his sister.
Drew Barrymore
So Drew Barrymore may not have been the one to lose custody, but she was still involved in one of Hollywood’s most notorious family squabbles. After she reached international stardom, Barrymore became a mainstay of the party scene at a very young age, along with her mother Jaid, indulging in all its drug and alcohol vices in her pre- and early-teen years. Barrymore soon recognized the path she was on and at the age of 15 pleaded with the courts to become emancipated from her mother.
Kelly Rutherford
The former Melrose Place and Gossip Girl actress has been locked in a bitter and absolutely crazy custody battle with her ex-husband, German businessman Daniel Giersch. A California judge ruled that Giersch could have custody over the couple’s two children, in France, because Giersch managed to get his visa revoked and he’s no longer permitted within the United States. Rutherford has continued to fight to regain custody of her babies, Helena and Hermes.
